Jim Walsh has represented Southwest Washington in the state House of Representatives since 2016, proudly serving the 19th Legislative District across Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Pacific, Thurston, and Wahkiakum counties. In a district that rarely sends Republicans to Olympia, he is just the third to hold the seat since the 1940s.
In the Legislature, Jim focuses on strengthening Washington’s economy, supporting family-wage jobs, and ensuring adequate funding for schools. He has been outspoken about policies that raise the cost of living and consistently fights to keep decision-making closer to the communities they impact. He strongly supports constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment, and regularly challenges efforts he believes expand government at the expense of local control.
Jim is committed to bipartisan collaboration and seeks common-sense solutions in the Legislature. Serving on three House committees, he holds a significant role as the ranking Republican on the Civil Rights and Judiciary Committee. Additionally, Jim is a member of the Capital Budget Committee and serves as the assistant ranking member on the State Government and Tribal Relations Committee.
Outside Olympia, Jim is a small business owner, writer, and longtime community member. He founded a publishing company in 1998, has contributed columns to Aberdeen Daily World, and has coached both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams in his community.
